It is a micronutrient that acts as a cofactor in many enzymatic reactions in the body and is important for the normal metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. It is important for cartilage regeneration and defence against oxidative stress. It is also needed for normal immune response, blood sugar regulation, reproduction, digestion and bone growth.
Sources of manganese are oats, buckwheat, nuts, blueberries, pineapple, rice, spinach ...
Recommended daily intake (RDI) is around 3 mg/day for a grown-up person.
